RE: Progressive Ins.?

My 5er went up $2/month and my Truck went up $10/month. I guess you might call that inflation or lots of claims nationwide for floods/hurricanes/tornadoes and hail storms. As long as they don't increase my insurance at the same rate some politicians want to increase taxes I'm happy.

RE: How long can you stay in AZ?

In 13 years full-timing I have NEVER been questioned about where I live. I have Ohio Registration and carry a Florida drivers license. I have been in 3 minor accidents and have never been questioned about my registration being different than my drivers license. In most states if the RV isn't used on public streets there is no requirement to register it. Bottom Line: STAY TILL IT GETS WARM:R:W:E:B

RE: What will future RVs be like? (opinion)

I just wonder what kind of RV will run on wind and solar power? Well we only have to wait 10 years to find out.:h All foreign oil dependence will be gone in 10 years and we can't drill our own. Of course I'm not sure what that will mean as far as all other products made out of oil. Like plastic.:R The green meanies will be the end of RVing. We have to sacrifice if I hear the anointed one right.:M I'm sure that wasn't what he really meant by sacrifice.:E.

RE: Cost to Full-ime: What goes up, what goes down?

Maybe I'm just cheap, but if I spend the money for a membership then that's where I would feel compelled to go. You know it's just my opinion. Y'all don't need to get huffy just because I don't feel like wasting my money on a membership. To each his own. I thought this forum was for ALL opinions. As far as www.RVparkreviews.com goes the reviews sure beat TrailerLife ratings, but then again, it's just my humble opinion. Bottom Line: You sure got defensive about your memberships. Perhaps you protest too much.LOL

RE: Cost to Full-ime: What goes up, what goes down?

The problem with membership parks is that you feel compelled to go to the member parks, whether they are actually where you want to go. We personally like to go in any direction and to any place we feel like without worrying if there is a membership park within a hundred miles. Passport America is as close to a membership park that we use. If there is a PA park where we want to stop and it's rated a 7 or better in www.RVparkreviews.com then we will stop.

RE: Cost to Full-ime: What goes up, what goes down?

I think you are a little low on Campsite fees 365 X $25. Unless you get monthly fees occasionally and if you move often, you will be closer to $30/$35/night. We recently crossed the US from Ohio to Washington/Oregon and averaged $32/night. Passport America occasionally reduced the nightly fees, but it still cost a lot. We have noticed a big increase in campground fees just in the last 2 years. We countered the increase by staying monthly in Cody, WY, $600/month, Long Beach, WA, $235/month + $36 electric, and currently the coast of Oregon, $342/month.

RE: Full Timing and Health Insurance

Hey WTTCS, bumpy asked the question and he understood my answer. That's called communicating to the person who asked the question. I wasn't communicating to you, so I don't much care if you understood it or not.

RE: Full Timing and Health Insurance

Whatever you decide to do, make sure if you go out on the road, that you get health insurance that covers you wherever. Most health insurance HMO's don't work. PPO provider types usually are good anywhere. Fortunately I have Medicare A and a supplement health insurance that ONLY costs $320/month for my share. My last employer picks up the lions share. I'm totally (100%) covered for hospitalization and pay $300/year deductible, + $15 per office visit and 20% copay for doctors over and above the deductible. Hey bumpy, the Basic BC/BS Govt plan (costs less) only pays if you use local PPO providers. The Standard BC/BS plan (costs more) pays any provider, but only up to the negoiated rate they pay the PPO providers. The Standard plan was the Low option plan years ago, however, BC/BS cancelled the High option plan. So now the standard plan has become the best plan (costs more) and a new basic plan (costs less) has become the low option plan. The basic won't work very well if you travel.

RE: Am I a full timer?

Hey Serena, most all RV topics are tired and have been talked to death for the last 20 years, so what's new. High gas prices, Nah that's old. I'm going to sell my house and full-time any year now. No that's tired too. Gee what kind of a RV do you think I should buy. Guess not, that's a little old. What's best for full-timing a Motorhome or Trailer. Lordy that ones been talked to death. Got any suggestions? LOL

RE: Am I a full timer?

If you can make it to Wally World with your RV you are a full-timer. God I love WM. Couldn't live without it. I go there just to make the GREENIES/Progressives mad.

RE: Am I a full timer?

Come on folks. The Forum Subject is: Full-time RVing. The "ing" on the V of RV means Full-time Recreational Vehicle-ing. The "ing" make vehicle a verbal noun and therefore shows action. Action means to MOVE. I can see why the wannabes that live in a RV in one place full-time would like to think that they are full-time RVing, but those of us that move down the road facing the challenges day-to-day of full-time RVing think maybe you need to earn the title. As for a 5er not being a RV try telling the salesman at the RV Dealership that the 5th wheels he's selling ain't RV's. LOL JMO

RE: Am I a full timer?

Gee Cody, thanks. I'm glad I can still have my opinion. You know when somebody asks a question "Am I a full-timer" they should be ready for all answers. PC is not my cup of tea. I work hard at being a dashing, hard charging real "on the road" full-timer. It's kind of like the old cowboys not being the same as a modern person that rides a horse. Big difference. There's a big difference between those of you that sit around in one place while the world goes by and those of us that try to catch up with the world.

RE: Am I a full timer?

The real problem lately is that there is a body of individuals that buy crappy old rundown RV's and move into the RV parks to beat the high cost of housing/rent. They are RV Park residents and take most of the sites on a monthly basis and drive up the cost of nightly sites. You can ID them the moment you drive into a RV Park by looking for dirty unkempt RV's and cluttered unmaintained sites. At the rate RV parks are filling up with these "residents", the mobile "on the road" RV lifestyle will soon be a thing of the past. Just my opinion and I'm welcome to it. I have an older RV, but I maintain it and keep it clean. Firedude, I notice you say you live in one place, but, go on to say at least for now. I've stayed at places for a month or two at a time. In fact I'm staying on the Oregon coast for a month right now and spent a month on the Washington coast last month. Every place I've stayed this trip out west, I've come across the run down RV's in the back of the park. Years ago there would be a few of them, but lately it's getting to be that there are about 3/4ths of the RV Park sites taken with yearly residents. It's not just the back of the park anymore. As I said it's just my opinion of what I think a full-timer is.

RE: Am I a full timer?

If you work from your RV and travel for three months you are a partime RV park resident and a partime RVer that lives in a RV. If you live in a RV and move every once in awhile you are a RV PARK resident that usually lives in the back of the park. Lets examine the term RV. It means/stands for Recreation Vehicle. Well living in one park all the time isn't my definition of recreation. The word vehicle brings to mind a object that is intended to move down the road and convey a person or individuals from one point to another. I rest my case.

RE: Am I a full timer?

You live in a RV full-time, but being "on the Road" meets the FULL definition of Full-time Rv'er. Living in a RV in one place full-time is no different than living in a stick house in one place. The real challenges of full-timing only happen "on the road". I consider living in a RV in one place as being a RV Park resident. I know that's not being PC. So what. I'm sick of PC.

RE: Full-Timing Coach?

We have been full-timing in a NUWA HitchHiker II for 13 years and it is still going strong. Carriage, Excel and SunnyBrook also make good 5er's.

RE: Full Timing and Health Insurance

I have used several different doctors in different States and haven't had any problems with BC/BS paying my policy negotiated payments, as long as I use BC/BS PPO providers. However, I have a STANDARD Federal Worker BC/BS PPO policy that will still pay non-PPO providers, but usually not in full. Additionally the Standard BC/BS plan pays the Medicare (A/B) deductible and any additional expenses (supplemented payment) after Medicare pays it's payment, if you use hospital/doctors that accept Medicare patients and payments. Note: If you don't elect to use/pay the Medicare B plan, Standard BC/BS PPO pays it's negotiated rate to PPO providers/doctors. You will still need to pay the doctor co-pays/deductibles. The BASIC Federal Workers BC/BS PPO plans require you to use PPO providers or they flat won't pay. Bottom line: BC/BS is good if you have their BEST plan. Reading the policy fine print is required to see if they will pay all out of area doctor/hospital bills.

RE: Full Timing and Health Insurance

What do you do for Health Insurance now? Whatever you do shouldn't change just because you RV. Make sure you get a PPO type and not a HMO. HMO's don't work when you are out of your covered area. Blue/Cross Blue Shield is the provider of our insurance and has worked out really well over the years. Now that I just recently went on Medicare A I'll find out how well that works with BC/BS. It is supposed to pay everything but full prescription coverage.
